Google Analytics referral spam is annoying. It skews your data so ridiculously much we've seen websites where 80% of their reported traffic was fake. In the past we've talked about how to prevent this from happening. Over time we've gathered the ultimate list that you can utilize to proactively prevent your data from being tampered with.
How To Use This List?
Its so easy, a non-technical person could follow these steps. We contacted Google directly and received these instructions from them.
- In Google Analytics, select the appropriate profile you're going to filter spam for.
- Go to the "Admin" section at the top
- Under the "Property" column, click "Tracking Info"
- Select "Referral Exclusion List" from the list that drops down
- Here is where you will manually need to add each individual domain.
- Unfortunately Google doesn't offer a way to enter domains in bulk. Can we request this feature Google?

We do warn you though this may potentially impact your websites performance which is a major SEO ranking factor. It is likely your .htaccess file has quite a bit of code already, adding to it just adds to Apaches processing time. It likely will only add an unnoticeable couple of microseconds to the load time however.
Follow the above link to obtain and copy and paste this entire block of code into your .htaccess Apache configuration file within your websites root directory. This will prevent Google Analytics spam referrals!
